Segnosaurus (pronounced seg-no-SAWR-us) was a meat-eating dinosaur that lived during the late Cretaceous period, about 97.5 to 88.3 million years ago. Segnosaurus (meaning "slow lizard") walked on two long legs.

Anatomy: Segnosaurus was a theropod dinosaur. It had a long flexible neck, long head, three-toed feet, a short body, a long tail, long, strong legs, and clawed fingers and toes. Segnosaurus was perhaps 13 to 30 feet (4-9 m) long; its size is uncertain.

Diet: Segnosaurus was a carnivore (meat-eater); it ate small animals, like insects.

Fossils: Three partial skeletons of Segnosaurus have been found in Mongolia. Segnosaurus was named by paleontologist Perle in 1979. The type species is S. galbinensis.

Classification: Dinosauria, Saurischia (lizard-hipped dinosaurs), Theropoda (meat-eating dinosaurs), Tetanurae (advanced theropods), Celourosauria, Therizinosauria.
