The Airedale terrier is the biggest terrier; it is also called the Bingley terrier and the Waterside terrier. This good-natured, intelligent dog was originally bred in Yorkshire, England, in the 1800's to hunt badgers and otters. It was bred from an older type of terrier and an otter hound. The Airedale has also been used for police work, for rodent control, and in bird and game hunting.

Anatomy: The Airedale Terrier is about 23 inches (59 cm) high at shoulders and weighs 44 to 50 pounds (20-23 kg) - males are slightly larger than females. The dense, wiry coat is mostly tan, with dark patches (there is often some white on the chest). The Airedale's coat requires a lot of grooming.
